Introduction
This project is a color + sustainable material study utilizing scrap pieces of ARIAPRENE obtained from MLAB in Detroit, MI. It's an exploration of how you can utilize the front and back sides of materials to expand a color & material palette without additional raw material cost.
What is ARIAPRENE?
ARIAPRENE is an environmentally friendly, non-toxic, lightweight and flexible foam-core fabric material. Unlike other composite materials, ARIAPRENE utilizes water-based lamination to ensure cleaner chemistry in the supply chain.
Who makes ARIAPRENE?
Tiong Liong Corporation (TLC) is a Taiwanese-based performance textile company that has been in the business for 40+ years. Their main focus is creating sustainable materials that help unlock creativity and innovation at consumer brands.
ARIAPRENE Material Palette
Color Palette & Mood Board
My initial thought when seeing this color & material palette was: Lavender Fields. From there, I was immediately transported to the irresistible destination of Provence, France
Beautiful landscapes, idyllic countryside, and charming villages filled with lavender fields, olive groves, vineyards, and Mediterranean coastline.
COLOR BLOCKING
Selection process
From the 15 color blocks, I narrowed it down to these 3.
Public Vote
As much as I wanted to make the 3rd option, I know a product is only as good as the demand it has. So on April 24th, 2023, I brought it to a vote to my 6k+ followers on Instagram. Luckily, my audience agreed with me - well 61% of them anyway!
